Giving. Providing. Serving.

To love and be loved.

To need others and to be needed.

These are vivifying components of what it means to be a person, a people, a humanity.

The Type 2 space is this collective momentum of this Essential Quality of being loved and loving others, of being served and serving others out of love – wherever we are and whenever we are.

The concept of a physician’s profession is intimately connected these concepts – giving, providing, serving. And although there are plentiful specialties and careers where there is less or no sense of a direct giving, providing, and serving, it still remains part of the archetype of the physician that is present within our culture.

It is easy, unfortunately oh too easy to take this giving for granted.

Today patients and the healthcare system takes this nature for the physician to give, provide, and serve for granted.

Today physicians takes their own nature for them to give, provide, and serve for granted.

Give give give. Provide provide provide. Serve serve serve.

The unhealthy reaction in the type 2 space is to believe in the need to give MORE, provide MORE, and serve MORE as if that will return one to the space of being loved and needed and appreciated. This is depletion.

This is the distorted beliefs, the ego-fixation of the type 2 – that I must do for others in order to have a sense of myself.

In reality, the type 2 space IS where we find the unconditional spark to give and serve INSTEAD of this depleting ego-fixated conditional sense of doing to feel loved and needed.

The type 2 lesson for us physicians, especially in particular to those of you that are Enneagram type 2 is this:

Pivot away from giving, providing, and serving where you deplete yourself.

Be embraced by and embrace the nourishing and nurturing that you always had, always deserved, and always will have.

Then give, provide, and serve no longer out of the expectations of others or out of giving up of and depleting yourself.

Be nurtured. Be loved.

You are nurtured. You are loved.

And from this space thus you can nurture and love others.
